Cultore dilettante del verso a rima baciata, ha vergato questi versi, in lingua italiana e inglese, dedicati alla Santa Patrona di Catania; che possano essere di buon auspicio in un momento così difficile della pandemia Covid-19.

LA POESIA

Sant’Agata

Visse durante l’impero romano

Sotto il proconsolato di Quinziano,

Agata ricca e piena di virtù

pochi anni della sua gioventù.

Quinziano della giovane s’invaghì

Ma Agata la sua fede non tradì,

e per non cadere nella tentazione

subì ogni sorta di persecuzione.

Per professare la sua cristianità

Affrontò ogni sorta di crudeltà,

non l’uccisero con placido veleno

ma strappando il suo vergineo seno.

È conosciuta nell’ antica storia

Per il rifiuto dell’ umana gloria,

per il suo indomito coraggio

di una vita di rapido passaggio.

Era giovane negli anni

Avendo appena sedici anni,

quando sua madre addolorata

vide la cara figlia martirizzata.

Anche durante il tremendo dolore,

Portò la divina gioia nel cuore,

E fu per la purezza e santità

Accolta in cielo per l’eternità.

Con la faccia di luna piena

Appare nel feretro serena,

ed ogni cristiana madre di famiglia

ama Agata come una santa figlia.

Chi versa in cattiva situazione

Cerca in sant’Agata protezione,

e, chi meglio della santa può capire

colui che teme e rischia di morire!

In verità questa santa prodigiosa,

è per Catania tanto miracolosa.

Protegge oltre la città catanese,

S. Marino, Gallipoli e popolo maltese,

Catania in pericolo l’invocò

e Sant’Agata la lava arrestò,

e, questa città, con grande onore,

porta Sant’Agata nel suo cuore.

A febbraio per la sua festa è noto

Che ogni cittadino chiede un voto;

E pregando con il cuore e con le dita

Chiede ad Agata un aiuto per la vita.

Ed ora che ha questo virus Corona

Nel mondo conquistato una poltrona,

S’ invoca Sant’Agata in persona

Per potere finalmente spazzare via

La temuta pericolosa pandemia.

POEM SAINT AGATHA

Santa Agatha (Prof. Vito Leanza)

During the Roman Empire Agatha lived

When proconsul Quintianus exercised a lead;

She was both rich girl and virtuous

And spent her few years being religious.

Quintianus fell in love with this pearl

But never failed the religiosity of this girl,

In order not to go into temptation

She faced all sorts of martyrization.

To profess her strong Christianity

Innocently she tolerated all cruelty.

She was not killed with sedative poisoning

But after seeing her virgin breast tearing.

She is known in the ancient history

For refusing the human glory

For his indomitable courage

In a life of rapid passage.

Agatha was young in years

Being just sixteen years’

When mother suffered more and more

Seeing her daughter hit with heavy sore.

Even when her sweet body hurt

She brought divine joy in the heart,

For purity and holiness in great entity

She was welcomed to heaven for eternity

She appears with face of full moon

Serene and shining as a noon

And every Cristian family mother

Loves Agatha as a holy daughter.

Who is in a dangerous situation

Looks saint Agatha for protection

And, who better than the saint can understand

Those who fear and risk of dying in the land ?

This saint Agatha prodigiously

Acts for Catania people miraculously.

She protects other than our city of island

Gallipoli, Malta and San Marino’s land

Catania in danger invoked her protection

Saint Agatha led Etna eruption cessation

And, the city, once saved, with honour

Has been keeping her figure in his soul.

In February a vote is known for her feast

Required by faithful people in a long list

With the heart and with the hand praying

Everybody asks saint Agatha help for living.

Now that this coronavirus sickness

in the world has spread its bad illness

Agatha herself owing to pandemic dark

is invoked to obtain finally health spark.
